Immunization Requirements

Routine vaccination is an essential preventive care service for children and adolescents that should not be delayed because of COVID-19 pandemic. Texas state laws require that all children entering public schools be fully immunized. Please click on this link to see what vaccinations are required by age and by grade.

Immunization Exemptions

Texas laws also allow parents to opt out of vaccinations. The following link will give you information on how to obtain an affidavit so that your child can be exempted from vaccinations. You must apply for the affidavit and present it to your school before your child can be admitted. Your child cannot be in school while you are waiting for the affidavit.

School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)

A School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is a group appointed by the school district to serve at the district level.  Members of the SHAC come from different areas of the community and from the school district.    Texas law (Texas Education Code, Title 2, Subtitle F, Chapter 28, Subchapter A, $28.004) requires the establishment of a SHAC for every school district.  SHACs are required to meet at least four times each year.

SHACs assist the districts in ensuring that local community values are reflected in health education instruction.  Additionally, SHACs play an important role in strengthening the connection between health and learning.  They can help parents and community stakeholders reinforce the knowledge and skills children need to stay healthy for a lifetime. - Texas Department of State Health Services

AISD Nursing and Health Services

The National Association of School Nursing defines school nursing as "a specialized nursing practice, protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. School nurses are grounded in ethical, evidence-based practice.  They are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential."  Adopted by the NASN Board of Directors February 2017.

The Licensed Nurses and Heath Aides of Alpine ISD believe that a student's health status directly impacts their ability to learn and meet educational goals.  AISD has a licensed nurse or health aide at each campus.  These professionals serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, community, and healthcare providers to advocate and facilitate the educational process.
