It is important to vote in primary elections to have your voice heard.
Voter turnout in primary elections is traditionally very low. Just 18 percent of registered Texas voters voted in the March 2022 primary elections.
By comparison, 46 percent of registered Texas voters voted in the November 2022 general election. But the November elections are largely noncompetitive because districts have sizable majorities of Republican or Democratic voters.
In the 2022 general election, all 150 seats in the Texas House were on the ballot. However, only five of those districts were decided by fewer than 10 percentage points.
